Latanoprost eye drops are used to treat raised pressure inside the eyes named ocular hypertension and open angle glaucoma. Latanoprost drops are a prostaglandin analog and works by lowering of pressure in the eye by enhancing the fluid drainage from the eye.
Mechanism action of Latanoprost Eye Drops:
Latanoprost eye drops works by enhancing the drainage of fluid from the inside of eyes. This helps to lower the pressure within eyes. Latanoprost eye drops are available as bottles of eye drops which contain a preservative, and also as single-dose units which do not contain a preservative.
Dosage and how to use Latanoprost Eye Drops:
Hands should be washed properly before using the drops. The bottle of the medicine should be opened and the head is tilted back. Lower eye lid is pulled downward to form a pocket. Enough pressure should be applied to release one drop into the eye. More than one drop should not be used. Eye should be closed for a minute and gently press the side of nose in order to stop the drop from draining away. The process is repeated in the other eye also. Cap is putted again on the bottle. If the container is a single use dose unit, throw it away.
Contraindications of Latanoprost:
The medicine can interact with various drugs like prescription medicines, over the counter medicines, vitamin and herbal products.
Side effects of Latanoprost Drops:
The side effects include irritation or redness in the eye, longer or thicker eyelashes, and darker skin on the eyelids, headache and sensitivity towards light.
Dose should not be missed. In case the dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible.

If the dose is applied in the excess, visit to the hospital immediately.
