Overview of Restasis Ophthalmic Emulsion - Cyclosporine Eye Solution:
Restasis eye drops care used to treat chronic dry eye caused due to inflammation. It is used to enhance the production of tears.It contains cyclosporine, an immunosuppressant which works by decreasing the swelling in the eye to allow production of tears.
Mechanism of action:
The active component in the medicine cyclosporine enhances the tear production which is reduced by inflammation in the eye.
Dosage and how to use Restasis Eye Drop:
Normally a drop should be applied in each eye two times in a day. Restasis eye drops should be used after every 12 hours. Hands should be washed properly before using the eye drops.
To use eye drops-
Firstly wash the hands properly and shake the bottle. Head is tilted back and lower eye lid is pulled to create a small pocket. Look upwards and squeeze out a drop in the eye. Eyes should be closed for 2 to 3 minutes without blinking. Finger is pressed gently to the inside corner of eye for about a minute in order to keep the liquid from draining out into the tear duct.
Contraindications of Restasis Eye Drop:
The common side effects associated with the use of Restasis ophthalmic emulsion are pain in eyes, redness, mild burning or redness, itching and vision blurriness etc.
Missed dose of Restasis:
The missed dose should be taken as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose.
If the medicine is overdosed or taken in excess, it can lead to serious problems and needs medical attention.
Safety measures of Restasis Eye Drop:
Store the medicine properly at room temperature away from direct heat, light and moisture. It should not be freezed.
