Brief description of Azopt Medicine:
Azopt drops is used to treat elevated intraocular pressure in the patients with ocular hypertension or open angle glaucoma.
Mechanism of action of Azopt:
Azopt drops are carbonic anhydrase inhibitor which works by decreasing the production of fluid inside eye, hence it lowers the pressure within eyes.
Dosage and how to use:
The medicine should be shaken well before use. Hands should be washed properly before using azopt drops. Head should be tilted back and with the help of index finger, lower eyelid is pulled away from eye to form a pouch. The medicine should be dropped into the pouch and eyes are closed. With the help of index finger, apply pressure to the inside corner of the eyelid for 1 to 2 minutes without blinking of eyes. The excess medicine should be removed around the eye with a clean and dry tissue. Wash the hands to remove the medicine. The contact lenses should be removed before using azopt drops and wear lenses after 15minutes of using azopt drops.
Contraindications of Azopt Drops:
The medicine like aspirin or salicylates may interact with azopt drops.
Side effects of Azopt Medicine:
The common side effects are bitter, sour and unusual taste, vision blurriness, tearing or dryness of eyes, discharge from eyes, headache, and inflammation of eyelids, runny nose and swelling of cornea.
Severe side effects includes allergic reactions like rashes, hives, itching, chest tightness, swelling of mouth, face, lips and tongue, pain in eyes, irritated eyelids.
Missed dose: Dose should not be missed. If missed take it as soon as remember.
Contact to the poison control center or emergency room immediately in case of overdosing.
Storage of Azopt Medicine:
Store the medicine properly at room temperature away from direct heat, light and moisture. It should be kept away from pets and children.
